Pitching an Eye-Catching Idea

Problem

Mesa Community College is the largest of the ten colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District. Their marketing team, Institutional Advancement, noticed that they did not have a large, eye-catching calling card when they were attending on- and off-campus events.

Process

After a couple of brainstorming sessions, we ultimately decided on an 8 ft. by 8 ft. blow-up tent; that way, it was large enough to catch attention when it was put up but easy enough to compact and move as needed. After receiving the design templates from the manufacturer, we went through a few different design rounds for each of the three elements: the tent, the back panel, and the visor

The ultimate goal of the design was to keep the tent and visor designs relatively standard while making the removable back panel more bold and eye-catching. We decided to integrate the cartoon version of the Thor the Thunderbird mascot along with the college’s recent campaign slogan “a college education as unique as me” to catch the attention of passersby.

Results

The college now has a piece of collateral that they take all around campus and the community. I’ve seen it used as an information hub for students at events, during the semester’s Welcome Week, and at sporting events.
