Crafting the Visual Vibe for DJs

Problem

Mesa Community College is the largest of the ten colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District. MCC’s Disc Jockey program was looking to create pop-up banners that they could easily transport and display at events to promote their programs, but a key factor was that they wanted to explore designs outside of our standard templates to highlight the creativity and vibrance of the program.

Process

We started by looking over the existing templates and assessing what information we needed to bring into this project to ensure that while the banners were unique in design, they still contained the same relevant information as our previous designs. When designing, we started by looking at Getty’s stock photo selection as well as Photoshop action sets to test different combinations of looks. Ultimately, we were looking for something vibrant, where you could almost “feel the music” when you looked at it. Once a style and photo set were decided on that emulated that sentiment, we modified the coloring and formatting to align with MCC’s brand standards.

Results

The banners have since been used at a number of events, both on- and off-campus, as well been displayed in high-traffic areas around the school. They also received a silver medallion at the 2023 National Council for Marketing and PR Awards in the “Interior Signage/Displays” category.
